LARGE LOUIS XV BEECH BERGÈRE
Large mid 18th century carved armchair in beech. With decorative floral and rococo carving to the apron, back and corners. With acanthus leaf decoration on the feet and the arms terminating in scrolls. Upholstered in blue and ivory cut velvet fabric with antiqued brass nails and a single loose cushion. France c. 1750.
Stamped twice by the maker François Reuze, 'reçu maître 1743'. François Reuze was the son of the carpenter Pierre Reuze and worked for more than fifty years. He provided seat furniture for the Royal Court, notably for Queen Marie Antoinette, and also supplied the royal Swedish court.
