LOUIS XV ROSEWOOD AND AMARANTH CROSS-BANDED COMMODE “À FAÇADE CINTRÉE”
18th century commode with three short drawers over two long drawers. Gilt bronze handles, and escutcheons.
The front angles with gilt bronze rococo mounts on scrolling foliate-cast gently splayed feet. With a shaped Gris Saint-Anne marble top.
Stamped J. BIRCKLE. under the marble. France c. 1745

Jacques Birklé 1734 - 1803 Maître 30th July 1764.
Birklé worked in the rue de Charente, then the rue Saint-Nicolas. In later life between 1785 to 1789 he received orders from Marie-Antoinette for the chateau of Saint-Cloud, and for the Duke d’Orleans for the princess de Lamballe and many others. After his death his son continued the workshop until 1825.
