French 19th Century Painted Commode with Marble Top
-
Description
An attractive commode, painted and topped in marble, from 19th century France. The three-drawer case piece is wide and deep, with plenty of space for keeping your belongings. The black and white marble top is in great antique condition, with canted front corners that match the body beneath. The body was painted an ivory white some time ago, and has since aged marvelously. The round knobs and small escutcheons that can be found on the three drawers have been painted gray and undergone the same patination. The large commode is lifted by bracket feet, also with canted front corners, that have been carved with a styled design. c.1870.
