A clerk's desk from the Chandigarh High Court, India, circa 1957. The desk was desk was designed by Pierre Jeanneret and is made of teak with a dark grey leather top.
The desk has a drawer in the front and storage space on the other side.
In 1950 the world renowned architect Le Corbusier was asked to design the capital of the states of Haryana and Punjab in the newly independent India. Le Corbusier designed the master plan and a number of buildings. Pierre Jeanneret, his cousin, served as the site architect and was responsible for all the furniture or Equipment as Le Corbusier prefered to call it. For this project the steppeda way from mass produced steel and relayed on the skills of local craftsmen. Jeanneret also designed several buildings for the city and the furniture for many projects, including the High Court. -
