Chinese Han Dynasty Period Lian
-
Description
A Chinese Han dynasty unglazed terracotta lian. Unglazed lians are quite unusual and this one has an exquisitely aged patina. Unglazed pottery like this dates to the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD).
The lian was used as a container for wine, which was ladled out of as depicted in banquet scenes on stones of pottery slabs lining the burial chamber. The lian was also used to store cosmetics.
This lian has a cylindrical body with three leg supports. A stunning piece on its own or would make a wonderful cachepot. -
