Mark Sturkenboom

Netherlander, 1983
Mark Sturkenboom is a Dutch product designer known for his innovative and conceptual designs that often explore themes related to social issues and emotions. He graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2011 and has since worked on a variety of projects, ranging from furniture design to interactive installations.

One of Sturkenboom's most notable works is the "21 Grams" memory box, which was designed to hold the personal belongings of a loved one who has passed away. The box features a built-in amplifier and speaker that allows the user to play music or other recorded sounds associated with the deceased. The box also contains a glass dildo that is intended to be used as a physical reminder of intimacy with the deceased partner. The design of the box has been controversial, with some critics seeing it as a disrespectful and exploitative use of grief, while others see it as a thought-provoking exploration of the complex emotions associated with loss and memory.

Sturkenboom's other projects have included a set of "Lonely Chairs" that are designed to give the impression of being occupied by invisible people, and an interactive installation called "Murmur" that explores the concept of privacy in public spaces. He has also worked on a variety of commercial design projects, including furniture and lighting designs for brands such as Droog and Moooi.
