Description
This stunningly-detailed period Napoleonic Empire fire-gilded bronze mantel clock, by Victor Cacheux, Paris, c. 1820, features a figure of Josephine, also known as the Patroness of Roses, in neoclassical dress with a basket of flowers and a spade. The dial consists of a gilded engine-turned center, original blued steel Breguet-style hands, hand-painted Roman numerals, and a bezel of roses. Below, are wreathed profiles of a neoclassical Napoleon and Josephine, resting on a base decorated with cherubim swatting away angry bees as they flee their hive. The dial is signed: "V.ICE CACHEUX H.R A PARIS." Retains key.
