Planet in White and Apricot

Description
Freeform sculpted, mouth-blown glass and hand-polished centrepiece.
The 'Planet in White & Apricot' is a unique glass sculptural artwork and centrepiece by the Swedish artist Lena Bergström. This piece is from an ongoing collection of works called the Planets which the artist has revisited several times throughout her creative career. These are technically challenging to make, an initial blown, ovoid shape is created and then the unwanted glass is labourously cut away. The edge is polished and creates a captivating line that draws the eye.
Bergström is one of Sweden’s best-known glass designers. She followed a diverse training from window dressing to studying textiles at Stockholm’s prestigious Konstfack School, initially achieving fame for outstanding textile art before being head hunted by Orrefors, Sweden’s most famous crystal company. In her own words, she likes soft glass and hard textiles, her textiles often have a clear graphic expression, while her glass designs are more organic. Of her glass, focus and elegance; dramatic sharp graphic shapes; fluid and sensuous curves - just some of the words that spring to mind when looking at the work.
Lena has designed several prize-winning products and received numerous awards. She is represented by Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, The Rohsska Museum of Fashion, Design & Decorative Arts in Gothenburg, Cleveland Museum of Art in the United States and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
