  • Description
    Biedermeier cherry chest of drawers, the top with bookmatched veneers and a black ink band; the two drawers, each with an inlaid escutcheon and replaced brass knobs, raised on sabre legs.

    The black band around the the top is an interesting feature. During the Biedermeier period black ink was often used in imitation of ebony inlay. It was also used to decorate chair backs and the interiors of secretaries.

    Condition: Good. Lovely color and patina. The top is slightly wavy, as seen in the photos, due to the shrinkage of the secondary wood, which is pine. Replaced knobs and associated filled holes. Drawers lined in floral paper.
