Mahogany Étagère Stand or Side Table attributed to Gillows
-
Description
English Regency mahogany stand or étagère of three-tiered-form with turned baluster supports between top with divided compartment drawer and reverse pull-out slide, second 'secret' drawer at middle and lower shelf.
This stand was originally believed to be French Restauration period, but further research has proved it to be English circa 1810 and firmly attributed to the legendary firm of Gillows of Lancaster based upon a set of 'quartetto' tables of related design found at Leighton Hall, Lancashire, owned by Richard Gillow. -
