Egyptian Revival Carved Amethyst Ring
-
Description
We offer for sale, a very unusual carved Amethyst and 14K yellow gold ring in the Egyptian Revival motif. The gold mounted carved square Amethyst tablet depicts a Pharoah's head in bas-relief along with several hieroglyphic symbols. The shank of the ring depicts two Pharoahs with one on each side. The inside of the shank shows three assay marks, including the Lotus flower, the Egyptian Assay Office Mark. The weight of the natural quartz Amethyst is approximately 9.45 carats. Please note that there is a small sliver or flake missing on the right side of the square tablet at approximately 2 o'clock position, which does not distract from the overall impact of the beautiful design. Please see photos.
There were several Egyptian revival periods, one as early as 1822 when the Rosetta Stone was translated, another the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869, as well as the discovery of King Tut's tomb in 1922. We believe this ring to date from 1860-1880. The ring comes with a Gem Lab Appraisal certificate. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. -
