Description
Fabulous watercolor of Venice, Italy done by the Austrian artist, Theodor Alphons. Signed and dated lower left, 1895. Framed in a beautiful custom contemporary gold leaf gallery frame with silk mat and gold leaf inner edge. Frame is in like new condition. Overall 26.5 by 31.5 inches.
Biography Theodor Alphons
The artist was born in Krakow in 1860 and attended the Academy in Vienna from 1879 on. He was trained by the landscape painter Eduard Peithner of Lichtenfels. He also continued his studies in copperplate engraving and from 1885 on in etching. In 1893 Alphonse became a member of the Künstlerhaus in Vienna.
Landscape and architectural sceneries are the main subject in his painting production for which he found his motives in the Wiener Neustadt, the Salzkammergut, in South Tyrol, Venice and Nuremberg. He died in 1897. -
