Chinese Finely Carved Huanguali Document Box

Description
A Chinese rosewood Huanghuali document box with brass hardware including handles and lock latch. The surface of the box is finely carved in low relief of scrolling clouds and dragons. On the top surface, a roundel of double dragon design was placed in the center. The wood shows nice linear rosewood grain and a general warm patina, The base and the interior display aged accumulation and discoloration from use. It is dated to late Qing dynasty, late 19th century. This type of boxes were used in the study for scholars' objects or to storage documents.
