Belgian Architect Nicolas Schuybroek Bowl of German Limestone

  • Description
Belgian Architect Nicolas Schuybroek’s bowl of German Limestone is a play on materials and celebrates the feminine and masculine. Made in Belgium, the combination of German Limestone and the perforated blackened bronze lid goes beyond decoration and becomes a functional part of a kitchen or home. With the bronze piece working as a lid or basket that nestles into a stone base, the design is versatile. The Bowl of German Limestone can hold fruit or vegetables for everyday use or become a featured addition to a table scape for entertaining. The juxtaposition of materials creates a beautiful balance between the delicate and the substantial, as well as a sense of proportion through the shape of the design.
The essence of his work is to conceive serene and pure, yet extremely warm and authentic spaces. While his architecture is often described as monastic and minimalistic, it is surprisingly sophisticated and it always has a soul.

His works explore a sharp vision of space and materials. Most people recognize Nicolas’ hand through his rigorous and contextual approach: embracing the essence of built forms, from the roughest construction to the smallest interior details.
Nicolas Schuybroek was listed in the top 100 designers by AD France in 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
As his practice develops, his projects are as diverse in geography and type as in scale. They range from renovations, new-builts and interior design of residential projects, offices, hotels, retail spaces to the design of objects. Examples of his projects include houses on the Cote d’Azur (France), Mexico City, the Robey hotel for Grupo Habita in Chicago (USA) and Tribu’s new offices and showroom in Belgium. They have demonstrated a considered approach to understanding each individual need, both in terms of exterior and interior architecture and design.

Message from Seller:

Pavilion is the collective vision of Deborah Colman and Neil Kraus, both graduates of the master of fine arts program at the Art Institute of Chicago. From a longstanding interest in art and design, frequent buying trips to France and Italy have influenced the direction of the gallery to offer items that are not easily sourced in Chicago and United States. Postwar design has been the focus for 18 yrs and we also look forward to new design that crosses boundaries and dialogues as well to the past
