An elegant 87.5" long Angelo Mangiarotti black marble Eros console table for Skipper, Italy circa 1970s. Black marble / Neo Marquina with striking white veining. 1 1/8th inch thick top sits on two conical marble legs. A characteristic example of Mangiarotti's work and research on creating furniture without joints. The simplicity of the shaped tops fitting onto the truncated conical legs, using gravity and the weight of the tops to keep them stabile, is a practical yet elegant design. The word Eros refers to the male-female coupling of this ingenious interlocking, seemingly gravity defying solution. Very good vintage condition. No cracks, scratches or repairs. A few minor small inconspicuous chips along the bottom edge of the conical legs -
