19th century Lao Buddha (Life like size). Late Era: Second period (1827-1893)
Wonderful example of Laotian Buddhist Folk Art. The art of the Lao Buddha image is considered one of the most sought after. This example wooden carved slender body elongated arms and hands, was predominant toward the end of the "Second Period Late Era". This particular piece exhibits exposed chest with extremely countered arms and hands in proportion with the elongated body. Finger and toe nails have human like detail true to this period. Few carved wooden Buddha were minimally enhanced with a jeweled glass feature. This particular Buddha has mirrored glass for eyes.
Condition is good. Some gaps and separation of age to arm appendages, areas of loss to the hair conicals, and large gap opening runs down the back of the carving. Please refer to photographs. - More Information
