French Vintage Marble and Brass Coffee | Cocktail Table
-
Description
During American Prohibition, citizens were no longer able to serve alcoholic cocktails to their guests, hence many turned to coffee as a stimulating substitute. Prior to Prohibition, the small, low tables placed in front of the sofa were known as “cocktail tables”. Once cocktails were outlawed, the “coffee table” was born. This stylish example comes from 20th century France. It has a unique marble top with black, white, and violet colors prominently displayed. It has an ogee finished edge. The base is solid metal with a lustrous brass finish. It has a wonderful scrolled form. With Prohibition in the past, today you are free to serve coffee or cocktails in style.
