  • Description
    Dimensions: 52-1/4?H x 49-3/4?W x 25-1/8?D

An impressive antique walnut desk, with roll top, from 19th century France. This handsome desk showcases the ingenuity and creativity of many 19th century furniture makers. It has many mechanical features that are seldom seen in antiquity. Using the finger wells beneath, the work surface can be pulled forward. Doing so opens the desk’s roll top and exposes a well-appointed interior, with a space for all things correspondence. A leather-topped writing surface can be found here that has the unique ability to be tilted to an incline. Four tiny drawers are hidden below. Eight drawers, all with stylish burl fronts, provide additional spots for organizing your belongings, and pigeon holes and cubby for papers and notes. Flanking this cubby are what appear to be decorative column details. They are actually extremely clever hidden drawers. When they are pushed shut, there is no way to tell what secrets they hold! When you are finished using the desk, push the work surface back in, and the top will close with it. Above and below the interior are sets of three drawers. The working locks have keyholes surrounded by styled brass escutcheons. The writing surface measures 31”H.
