Large Japanese Lacquer Inro with Maki-e Landscape Meiji Period

    A Japanese four-case inro with string and an amber bead ojime of Meiji period circa 19th century. The relatively large inro has a black lacquered background with fine detailed gold hiramaki-e decoration. On one side, a cluster of three huts stand under the pine and maple trees by the edge of the water; On the other side, a pair of wood barrels that were used to fetched water was curiously left by the water, under the watch of a half-hidden crescent silver moon. Both sides features small hills and clouds of gold fundame (ikakeji) in the far ground; and rocky outcrops with gold kirigane (small square inlays) in the foreground. The interior is of black urushi, Not signed.
