Pair of vermeil and vernis Martin Louis XV style vases

This beautiful pair of vases features fine silver-gilt mounts and bodies decorated with vernis Martin, the varnishing technique that was immensely popular during the reign of Louis XV.
Each vase features an ovoid body adorned in the round with a scene of putti, all executed in vernis Martin. Each body is mounted with a silver-gilt neck and foot, the surfaces of which are profusely adorned with embossed detailing. Each vases features ornate twin handles, each handle finished in the Rococo style.
The pair is an unusual but beautiful example of 19th Century French decorative art. - More Information
