French 19th Century Painted and Gilded Empire Trumeau

Sold Sold
  • Description
    Dimensions: 53″H x 65″W x 1-3/4″D

A fine French painted and gold gilt Empire mirror from 19th century France. The mirror’s back has been painted a deep hunter green that makes the brilliant gold gilt frame and crest stand out against the darker backing. The extraordinary crest is comprised of a laurels and berries, sheet music, a clarinet, violin, and a drum. The mirror’s glass is more recent. This wide trumeau’s glass is bordered by carved, gilt framing, with a beaded pearl and dash motif. The mirror’s sides and bottom are decorated with leafy tassels. This mirror was most likely made for the music room in a fine French home, hence the musical instruments found in the crest. The glass is in excellent condition, and likely newer.
