Description
Joyful Birds flying over New York City Rooftops is a simple but complex naive painting by a pioneering American Illustrator and Art Director. The painting depicts a moment of celebration where humans and birds are jubilantly unified in a pure expression of happiness. Jerome Snyder (1916 – May 2, 1976) was an American illustrator and graphic designer. He is best known as the first art director of the magazine Sports Illustrated and as an Art Director of Fortune Magazine and as the co-author of the popular New York City restaurant guidebook The Underground Gourmet written with Milton Glaser.
As a commercial artist, he won a number of awards. He also illustrated children's books and coauthored with Milton Glaser. He also taught art at such places as Yale University, the Pratt Institute and the Parsons School. The work is unframed. Unsigned. Registration or printers number on extreme lower right verso -

As an undergrad in painting, he studied with great teachers such as first-generation abstract expressionist Robert Richenburg and hyper-realist painter Janet Fish. In Graduate School he worked with famed critic E.C. Goossen and went on to work as a Photographer, New York Advertising Art Director, and Art Collector.
