French 19th Century Walnut Buffet A Deux Corps
-
Description
Impressive French walnut buffet a deux corps. Buffet a deux corps translates literally to “buffet with two bodies.” This enabled the piece to function both as a means to display prized collectables above, and function as storage below. Being able to separate into two pieces also makes transporting the buffet easier. Geometric, gem cut carvings grace the fronts of the doors, drawers, and along the crown. For the upper section, two original glass front doors close before two adjustable shelves. The lower section has two drawers above two doors that conceal one fixed shelf. c.1850.
