Japanese Shigaraki Water Storage Jar, Meiji period
-
Description
This a beautifully crafted Meiji period Shigaraki water jar. The jar measures a generous 19 inches; however, it is the movement-filled Shigaraki splash glaze that is the most interest-grabbing feature. This type of glaze is uncommon and very desirable. Although this was intended as a utilitarian vessel, the form, fabrication and glaze take the jar to a very high level of sophistication. The abstract nature of the decoration allows the jar to integrate into many different design settings.
