NOA Living

American
NOA Living’s designs begin with the creative collaboration between architect Fida Nehme and artist Eva Sutton. Originally from Beirut and trained in the United States, Fida Nehme founded NOA Living with her husband, Ehssan Nehme. Fida’s profound love of pattern is manifested in all of our rug collections, as is her skill in using color as a tool for generating visual movement in a textile. Eva Sutton joined NOA Living in 2018, after a successful twenty-year teaching career at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she specialized in photography as a generative medium for ideas. Eva’s focus at NOA Living is on concept visualization and materials innovation. As partners in the company, Fida and Eva collaborate on all aspects of design, prototyping and production. Our carpets often have a playful, hand-drawn quality--a deliberate departure from the obedient, the orderly and the expected. Our designs are informed by pods, seeds, stalks and other organic forms, which we obsessively gather and examine. We’re inspired by phenomena like water, wind and the growth patterns of living things, as these often communicate unexpected poetic beauty. Our methodology involves the abstraction of natural forms into designs which are further transformed by the knotting process. We believe that color has a metaphorical capacity to reference culture and nature indirectly, but with powerful effect. We design all of our rugs to inhabit a space with other things - to create a meaningful juxtaposition of elements from different eras and cultures. We love a considered eclecticism--and we believe that a beautiful rug is the foundation for this eclectic mix. If you have a favorite heirloom or a particular room that’s missing a special rug to go with it, let us know! We collaborate with architects, designers and private clients to customize any design or to create bespoke pieces that are uniquely yours.
