Sendai Tansu, Meiji Period
-
Description
This is a very graphic Meiji Period SendaiTansu that dates to the late 19th century. The arrangement of the drawers with highlighted black separations combined with the black sides and top remind me of Mondrian. This is a handsome one-part chest with its original iron side lift handles and drawer hardware. The top, sides and drawer separations were not originally black. The chest is in good overall minimally restored condition; we fitted the chest with a custom 5" high iron stand. Because of its graphic style this chest is appropriate to many different design formats from Mid-Century Modern to traditional or antique.
