Description
Italian Neoclassical style alabaster and marble lamp
Italian, c. 1900
Height 104cm, width 33cm, depth 33cm
This wonderful Neoclassical style antique lamp features some exceptional sculptural work, and will make a fine piece of interior decor. It is triangular in form and is shaped as two winged putti standing around a central pillar decorated with drapery and foliage. They are supported by a socle decorated with scrolls and fruit, which is set on a red Florentine marble base. The quality of the carving on the lamp calls to mind some of the most exquisite Italian marble work.
Above, the lamp fitting sits inside a semi-spherical shade, decorated around its exterior with banding engraved with lions and topped with a flower bud finial.
The base of the piece bears the signature for 'P. Conti C / Firenze', a sculptor working in Florence, Italy, in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
Artist/maker: P. Conti (Italian, active late 19th/early 20th Century) -
