Paul Evans Important Sculpted Bronze Wall Cabinet 1969 (Signed)
-
Description
Rare and important large sculpted bronze wall cabinet with enameled steel elements and 3 cleft slate top pieces by Paul Evans Studio for Direction Furniture, 1969 (signed “PE 69” on bottom). The gray steel elements set into the bronze resin are an incredible color combination. Bronze resin was created from a mixture of epoxy resin and sand applied to a plywood base and sculpted into various swirls, drips and other patterns. Once hardened, the piece was sandblasted, sprayed with an atomized bronze finish, varnished, blown with a torch to provide a smoky look, polished, and then varnished again. The resulting work has a metallic sheen but is lightweight compared with something made of cast bronze. (Photo shows wall cabinet with matching mirror, also available.)
