Description
Description This is an old (circa 1930’s) porcelain sake storage container.
Japanese refer to this type of barrel as a “Taru” or “daru”.
This container is a traditional shape where the porcelain mold mimics an even older style using straw ropes.
The Japanese writing on the front is the name of the saki distillery with smaller characters indicating famous or high quality sake.
The back includes name and address of the bar.
This rice wine barrel dated back to Japanese occupation of Korea so late 19th century or early 20th century. It was acquired in Korea in mid 1970s. Likely either imported from Japan or there was a branch distillery set up in Korea.
14.5” tall x 13” wide
* These make for wonderful Lamp bases. Small lid on top is removable as well as the cork stopper. -

Message from Seller:
I became interested in the Ceramic Arts; specifically Ancient Chinese Pottery, when my brother Marc; also an art dealer, introduced it to me over 20 years ago. Since then I traveled throughout Asia; including Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea, in search for those special pieces that appeal to the discerning collector, as well as the Designer Market.
