ANTIQUE GUSTAV BAYOL JUMPING CAROUSEL HORSE LATE 19TH CENTURY

Sold Sold
  • Description
A wonderful example of a late 19th century Gustav Bayol Carousel Horse.

    France circa 1900.

This glorious example is by one of the best showing the skill this particular artisan had….Boyal was born in Avignon, France in 1859. His father was a cabinet maker and woodcarver, Gustav followed in his footsteps. Working alongside his father he turned to carving carousel figures and became the most predominant carousel maker in France.

Brought back to the original wood finish many years ago whilst still retaining a beautiful wear and patination, this fine prancing jumper has a great warmth and colour showing the years of love, fun and enjoyment experienced by thousands of little (and not so little) legs, since many adults still love carousels and antique carousels in particular.

Perfect in proportion with great attention to detail you can see why bayou was classed as one of the best.

Antique carousel horses of this quality are rare to find and very collectable.
