Lounge Chair, by Joaquim Tenreiro, Brazilian Mid-Century Modern

$ 14,369
  • Description
    The simple lines and the overall lightness of this armchair are both signatures of Joaquim Tenreiro's work. This is a piece that also reflects the craft and wisdom in the use of tropical wood, taking the most out of its possibilities and constraints.

    The piece was restored by one of our best craftsmen in São Paulo and kept its original aura and attraction.

    Sometimes considered the precursor of the Brazilian modernist tradition, Tenreiro was born in Portugal and moved to Brazil in the late 1920s. There, he worked during the 1950s and 1960s in architectural projects of names such as Oscar Niemeyer and was considered by his peers as a sculptor that also produced furniture. For Joaquim Tenreiro, the lightness of objects did not have to be directly related to the weight per se, but it was a consequence of the functionality and of the material.
