c1880 Chinese Red Painted Leather Trunk w/ Bronze & Applied Decor

Description
Classically red painted leather Chinese chest or trunk, likely a pigskin that was made for export at the end of the 19th century. Lay-on applied Chinese decor to three sides with bronze closure and side handles. Trunk opens at top with interior of unpainted varnished pigskin. Later re-painting with some paint over metal closure and cracks at four top corners. Black-painted wood stand with step feet and groove supports for trunk.
