Malachite Rock Specimen on Display Stand as a Viewing Stone
-
Description
A malachite specimen with intense color and beautiful pattern fitted on a wood stand. The front was polished while the sides and the back were left natural. It is displayed vertically as a viewing stone possibly by a previous collector of Chinese scholar rocks. Known as "Peacock Rock" in Chinese, there was a more recent tradition in China (from Qing Dynasty and on) to collect the exotic specimen and place them in the study as the viewing stones. It was believed that it has power to bless the family and ward off evils.
The stand has an inscription under the base showing "NV and a number". It is likely from US by origin. -
