  • Description
Simplicity, functionality, and elegance - these are the basic aspects of the design of this pair of sophisticated club chairs. The design has a delightful touch of Art Deco and Modernism with a result that is timeless.

The subtle decorative qualities stemming from the early 20th century art movements give these chairs their elegance. Designed in the early phase of what we know today as mid-century modern, this pair of club chairs still show the influence of the art deco movement of the previous decades. Like in the case of art deco designs, here an emphasis was placed on bold lines and unusual forms. As they form most of the structure, this is mostly visible in the arms which stem from the back and reach towards the front creating beautiful, flowing lines. At the same time, the design has the classic profile of club chairs which first appeared as the “fauteuil confortable”, the "comfortable armchairs" as they generally have a wide sitting area and armrests with a fully upholstered body. These chairs are also proportioned larger than an average armchair, which allows the elegant upholstered bodies to stand out. The curvature creates an inviting and open look, enhanced by the dark upholstery that is very precise and accentuates the flowing lines. The short wood legs keep the design grounded and the warm brown colour nicely contrasts to the colour of the bodies. The front legs are much thicker than the back legs that are tapered and bent to support the structures.

The craftsmanship of this pair’s maker was without a doubt of the highest quality, with a great sense of proportions. These beautiful, inviting club chairs live up to their Art Deco and mid-century modern heritage both in terms of design and quality, which is further elevated by the lush, streamlined upholstery.
