FRANTS DIDRIK BOE (1820-1891)
Lived/active; Norway and France.
Sami on Skis in Northern Lights.
Signed and dated, (l.r.), Frants Boe, 1855.
20” x 17 1/2” with frame.
Oil on canvas, in a period carved gilt frame. Over-all in great condition. Known as one of Norway’s most significant still-life painter, Boe on occasions painted genre scenes. This example of a Sami on skies with the northern lights in the distance is a rare subject matter for any artist. -
