Angelo Mangiarotti for Artemide, 'Lesbo' Glass Table Lamp, Italy, 1970 ca.
-
Description
Designed by Angelo Mangiarotti for Artemide in 1966, the Lesbo lamp represents one of the symbols of Italian design of the 1970s. It consists of an annular base in chromed metal, which supports the lamp, made of blown Murano glass.
The lamp we offer has almost likely been produced between the end of the 1960s and mid 1970s. The glass part, still handmade in Murano, shows three small bubbles, that would not have been allowed/tolerated in more recent years as the production of the lamp was based on more "industrial" processes.
Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-2012) was an architect, designer and sculptor, one of the great Italian masters capable of exporting his idea and design philosophy. Esteemed for his approach to materials, Angelo Mangiarotti stands out for his ability to enhance the sensual aspect of his works. Tables, chairs, furnishing accessories, lamps and accessories are all characterized by an intuitive and highly expressive formal sensibility.
