File Rack PJ-050205 by Pierre Jeanneret - 1957-58

$ 20,158
  • Description
    This double-sided low cupboard, known as "file rack”, in solid sisso (Indian rosewood) by Pierre Jeanneret was created for the city of Chandigarh in India, the utopian city designed by his cousin Le Corbusier. A sideboard with five compartments to store and display books, art and other curiosities. Four similar compartments and one double compartment at the side higher up. The legs are formed by the body's two side panels. Characteristics of this wooden shelving unit are the hidden joints, clear shape and remarkable patinated wood. Its minimalist and pure shape create a raw simplicity. Jeanneret’s designs stand out for their essential forms and simple materials, a balance between modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit.

    Jeanneret’s file racks were part of the furniture in Chandigarh's secretariat and administrative buildings. A rare design, highly sought after by collectors and design aficionados. It’s a true collector's item that can be used as a bookshelf, sideboard or even as a room divider. The file rack is in excellent original condition and shows a rare mark “D.I.H.-074” on one side. The matching larger version with six compartments is available in another listing.
