19th c. Swedish Gustavian Painted Window Seat Bench with Armrests
-
Description
A rare Swedish window bench in the Gustavian style newly upholstered in fine Belgian linen with padded armrests. The frame features beautifully carved acanthus leaves and bell flowers with rosettes on the corner posts ending in tapered and fluted legs.
The Gustavian style, named after King Gustav III of Sweden, is a restrained interpretation of the French Louis XV and Louis XVI style. King Gustav III was enamored with the neoclassical style and therefore created his own interpretation for Sweden. -
