This is the book that launched Wharton's career as a novelist with its enthusiastic reception.
First issue with Scribner's seal to verso of title page. Original red octavo cloth, gilt titles and top edge. Illustrated with eight plates by A.B. Wenzell. Condition is near fine, nice tight copy, with some very faint marking to cloth with no adverts (as per the first edition) and some uncut pages. 19.5 cm x 12.5 x 3.5 cm. -
