White Mid-Century Modern pendant model "Ufo" by Uno and Östen Kristiansson
This elegant Mid-Century Modern pendant lamp or hanging light was designed by Swedish brothers Uno & Östen Kristiansson and produced by their company Luxus in Vittsjö, Sweden. This model is number 565 also known as UFO and was designed in the 1950s and was originally produced in opaline glass. In the 1960s it was made from acrylic. The diffusor is made of plastic and is therefore very resistant and light weight. The lamp comes with 1 x 27 / E26 Edison screw fit bulb holder. It is wired, in working condition and run both on 110/230 Volt. The hanging height is adjustable and allows a maximum height of 140 cm length. The lamp is in excellent vintage condition and bears the company's label.
Swedish designers and brothers Uno & Östen Kristiansson, known for their lighting and mirror designs, were particularly active from the 1950s to the 1970s in Sweden. They were prolific designers with a clear design aesthetic that is easily recognizable as Scandinavian modern. Although there is a dearth of biographical information available on the pair, their designs are nonetheless appreciated by vintage lovers, and are highly sought-after on the vintage market today.
In 1950, Uno Kristiansson founded his own manufacturing company, Luxus, which was situated in Vittsjö. He produced a range of products, including home and interior lamps, furniture and mirrors, that were designed by the two brothers. In the 1950s, the collections were launched nationally in Sweden, and internationally across Europe.
