Aesthetic Movement Japanese Lacquered Chest
-
Description
This is an exceptional example of an English Victorian Aesthetic Movement chest of drawers surmounted by its original mirror and a pair of small drawers on either side. The pine case has been beautifully detailed in burnt bamboo and encased in antique top quality Japanese lacquer panels. The central Japanese lacquer panel features a phoenix with a pine tree and peonies and flying birds. The drawers and the sides are encased in lacquer panels with a geometric design with florals. All elements of the chest are in very good condition; the brass hardware is original; the original mirror is present (with some losses to the silvering at the bottom); an original key is available. Aesthetic Movement pieces of this level of artistry and quality are rare and very desirable.
