German, Late 19th Century
Height 37cm, width 37cm, depth 27cm
Open: height 43cm, width 37cm, depth 42cm
This splendid German gilt bronze casket is designed in the Rococo style. The gilt bronze case has been cast in order to depict multiple elaborate motifs that include cherubs, flowers, masks, acanthus leaves, and foliate elements. The domed hinged cover opens to reveal a rich red velvet lined interior.
The sides of the casket, as well as the panels of the cover, are inset with white KPM porcelain plaques, that are painted with imagery of courting couples in the eighteenth-century style. The piece can be enjoyed simply for its beauty as a decorative work of art, or alternatively used to store precious objects and jewellery.
