Description
Vintage floor lamp by the famous designer Joseph-Andree Motte, named J14 this piece is made of a circular marble base, gun metal finished brass structure and double layered glass ovoidal shaped diffuser.
Joseph-André Motte (1925 –2013)
Joseph-André Motte is a well-known French designer who graduated from the “École des Arts décoratifs” of Paris in 1948.
He began his career as a furniture designer for the famous French department store “Le Bon Marché”.
In the mid 1950’s he founded his own design agency and during that same period, he co-founded the “Atelier de recherche plastique” or “Studio of plastic research” with Pierre Guariche and Michel Mortier.
His prolific career let him rise to the top of postwar designers whose mission was to refurnish French homes with industrial materials and contemporary style, integrating modern forms with conventional techniques, using traditional and modern materials: rattan, foam, plastic, Formica, plywood, stainless steel, and glass.
He also had many public commissions by the French government from the 1960 up to the early 1990’s.
He designed more than 100 Parisian metro stations, some parts of the Louvre Museum and the interior design and the furnishing of the Paris and Lyon airports.
He designed two series of lights for the Ateliers Pierre Disderot, one with white glass in a very Japanese spirit (such as the j14) the other in sheets of Plexiglas folded and stretched between brass rods. -
