    Limited edition of Josephine Baker's memoirs, with evocative illustrations after Paul Colin. Baker was an American-born French dancer, singer, and actress, working primarily in France and Europe. She was the first black woman to star in a major motion picture, the 1927 silent film Siren of the Tropics, directed by Mario Nalpas and Henri Étiévant.

    First edition, number 5 of 300 copies; square 8vo; portrait frontispiece, 28 illustrations after Paul Colin, mostly full-page, ink inscriptions to frontispiece and illustration facing p20, 4pp of Joséphine Baker ephemera and manuscript notes bound at end, short closed tear to title, light dampstaining to lower edge; rebound in full brown morocco gilt, gilt lettering to spine, spine slightly marked, overall a very good copy.
