Plaque: height 40cm, width 58.5cm, depth 0.5cm
Painted by Eugêne-Auguste Landry, Paris, in the late nineteenth century, this superb porcelain plaque, large in scale, was executed with great skill and shows a scene with clear compositional and artistic influences of the Spanish Baroque and later genre scenes.
The scene in question is that of a musical party scene, with musicians, revellers, and singers in attendance, in a humble interior dwelling that opens up to reveal a dark forest landscape through a door to the back. It is signed 'E. Landry', to the mid-left, and is mounted with in-gilt gesso composition and wood foliate rectangular frame. - More Information
