Rare antique bronze sculpture. Mathurin Moreau (French 1822-1912) a largebornze figural group of a mother and childs in a storm entitled 'TEMPETE' the mother supporting a small child in her left arm, with a young girl huddled beside her, she carries a fishing net and walks barefoot over the rocky ground, her shawl blowing in the wind, on a circular base signed 'Math Moreau Hors Concours', and stamped 'MEDAILLE D'HONNEUR', brown patination. The sculpture is supported by a beautiful red marble base. This wonderful bronze sculpture is very tall will become the most beautiful sculpture in your art collection.
Mathurin Moreau (Dijon, 1822-Paris, 1912) is a French sculptor renowned for his statuary art, spread throughout the world through his collaboration with the foundries of the Val d'Osne, in particular his cast iron fountains with patina bronze in public squares in major cities around the world. Its active production dates from the second half of the 19th century, in the purest academic style of the time. -
