Unusual Pre-War round “Drum Mechanical Bank”, whose operation is somewhat different than most banks that exist in collections today.
To operate; push in on the pin at the side of the bank; place a coin in the tray now lying flat; push in on the pin and the coin is deposited into the “drum’. Coins are removed by undoing the key lock hinged trap underneath using the key provided (Be sure to see the video (upon request) to see how the bank works and how the coins are removed). The bank is round with two vertical surfaces to actuate the coin on top; hand painted in colors of red (to the top and bottom trim). and cream coloring to the side with three hand painted red stars . There are images of a duck, a pig, and a “buckaroo” applied to the sides, with a haystack and a windmill on the top where the coin is received. They are either lithographed or applied decals, and I do not know whether or not they were added later or put on at the factory. I have been “doing banks” for over 40 years and have never seen this bank before, and judging by the make up of the coin trap at the bottom, it seems to me to be German made. Regardless of the genesis of the figures; we can assume “factory made” so it belongs in the conversation of rare and scarce mechanical banks. The condition is good and as stated previously, and it works fine. There is no restoration and no repaint, albeit a few scratches here and there (see images). Being a “bank guy” all of my adult life, and always looking for something different, I find this bank to be quite unique.
