Aldo Londi Bitossi Rimini Blue Glazed Mid-Century Ceramic Ball Vase, Italy, 1950
-
Description
A mid-century round 'Rimini Blu' glazed terracotta art pottery globe vase, designed by Aldo Londi and crafted by Bitossi Ceramiche in Italy during the 1950s. This handcrafted vase is essentially spherical but has slight indentations on four sides, which are hardly noticeable visually but create the effect that the vase appears slightly different from various angles despite its globular shape. It features intricate hand-carved geometric patterns finished in a vibrant glaze of turquoise green and cobalt blue. In very good condition. Dimensions: 5“ diameter and height.
Aldo Londi (1911–2003) was an Italian ceramic artist and designer. Starting as the artistic director at Bitossi in 1946, Londi played a pivotal role in shaping the company's design identity. His most famous collection is the "Rimini Blu" series, characterized by vibrant blue hues and hand-carved geometric patterns. Bitossi Ceramiche, founded in the 19th century in Montelupo Fiorentino, Italy, is a prestigious ceramics manufacturer. Under Londi's leadership, the brand gained international recognition for its innovative and artisanal designs, blending traditional Italian craftsmanship with modern aesthetics. -
