"The Idea of Rotary" Giannino Castiglioni (Italy, 1884-1971), bronze, 1930

$ 5,200
  • Description
    Commissioned by Rotary International to celebrate its 25th Anniversary in 1930, the "The Idea of Rotary" was sculpted by Giannino Castiglioni in Milan and cast by the renowned Stefano Johnson foundry. This rare and important bronze depicts the Rotary ideal as a nude male figure holding the Rotary shield in one hand and the torch of service and knowledge in the other. Castiglioni is best known for completing an ambitious sculptural program for the Palacio Legislativo in Montevideo, Uruguay during the 1920s, as well as a stunning mausoleum for Antonio Bernocchi in Milan. This bronze maintains a beautiful, original patina, is signed and maintains its foundry stamp.
