SE Persian city, famous since 17th century for an artistic variety of scatter rugs and large carpets in medallion and allover styles, changing with export tastes. In the 20th century, more popular in America. Antiques are brighter, but vintage carpets are softer. Complex, broad palettes in natural dyes. Fine to very fine weave. Medium price to expensive. Recent pieces are undervalued.
